We live in a very stressful environment and time with so many demands, pressures and expectations, both internal and external. This can leave us feeling disconnected and frenetic. When we feel overloaded it makes it difficult to effectively manage the tasks before us, and identify what takes priority. If we are unable to slow down we can't reasonably evaluate how we feel and accurately assess what we need in the moment. Persistent and unrelenting stress can be corrosive and lead to both physical and mental health problems. Often our bodies and minds are telling us we need to stop or slow down, but because of the constant stimulation and demands that swirl around us we tend to ignore the signs, and push forward until we are forced to stop. Sometimes we become so derailed by the various day to day demands that we lose track of our values and what gives a sense of meaning and purpose.
