We all eventually experience loss. Loss takes so many forms, including the loss of a loved one, identity, a dear pet, job, financial status, home, marriage, children leaving the home, physical and cognitive ability, and significant life transitions. Each of which can elicit so many painful emotions simultaneously. This can potentially feel overwhelming and confusing. Our lives and our perspectives can suddenly feel altered by the event(s), such that the things which previously seemed important to us no longer seem significant. We all process and cope with grief and loss differently, and there is no correct or incorrect way of dealing with loss, and there are no time limits.
It's important to find healthy ways to negotiate, honor, and process the emotions that surface, as suppressing and denying the emotions can potentially contribute to difficulties later.
