I began my career in 1989 working with children and their families in a hospital setting for approximately five years, as a counselor and treatment team coordinator. The following ten years I provided care in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient setting for adults experiencing acute symptoms, providing individual and family therapy, and facilitating group therapy, and multifamily support groups. For the past 19 years I have been working at Kaiser Permanente in the psychiatry department in the intensive outpatient program for adults experiencing severe symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood instability and psychosis, as well as those experiencing significant distress precipitated by life stressors, loss and traumatic events. I provide individual therapy, couples and family consultation, conduct group therapy, as well as provide on going education about diagnosis, effective symptom management and development of coping strategies.
I have extensive experience with a variety of researched and validated treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Brief and Solution Focused Therapy, as well as Attachment focused EDMR. I provide individual and couples therapy, with the availability of collaborative therapy with partners, spouses and family.
I provide treatment for:
My approach in working with each individual is dependent upon their specific needs, strengths and vulnerabilities. It is important to me to treat each individual with compassion and respect, and to be both gentle and direct. It is always my intention to help each individual improve the quality of their life, develop greater understanding and awareness of their symptoms and patterns of behavior and thinking, so that they most effectively face the issues before them. I do my utmost to provide individuals with the tools and information they need so they can make healthy and thoughtful decisions and choices.
It is an honor and a privilege to work with individuals and families as they courageously face difficult issues and painful emotions. It is always a joy to see someone take necessary steps towards empowering and caring for themselves, so that they can regain self confidence and a renewed sense of self.
It is my belief that although we each have unique histories, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds there is a common thread which connects us all. We all suffer and have the ability to overcome tremendous adversity, and our strength comes from the powerful connections we make with one another in the process. We do not have to suffer alone, and it is the connections that we make along the way which help us survive.
I look forward to hearing from you and having the opportunity to help support you.
